Dr. Benson grew up in Loveland, Colo., and became interested in medicine while studying biology at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. He earned his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb., in 2011. He most recently completed his emergency medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore.
As a resident, he served on the Continuous Quality Assurance Committee reviewing 48-hour returns and emergency department complaints.
As a volunteer, he mentored first- and second-year medical students as a Vital Signs Mentor; constructed housing in Mississippi for Habitat for Humanity; worked at the student-run Magis Clinic in Omaha, serving the indigent population; provided humanitarian and dental services to people of the Dominican Republic with Charity Anywhere; and participated in missionary work in Hong Kong with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“This is a great hospital and surrounding community,” he said. “I feel very blessed to be a part of both the hospital and the city.”
His hobbies include playing Frisbee; spending time with wife, Jamie, and his daughter, Emmy; hiking, reading and sailing.
