Meet Kallen Tomlinson, Baby New Year 2021

The race for Baby New Year wasn't exactly a photo finish in 2021, but it was a bit of a squeaker. Two babies were born Friday morning less than half an hour apart, but little Kallen Tomlinson came first, born at 10:49 a.m. Jan. 1, 2021.

Kallen Tomlinson was the first baby born at Wyoming Medical Center in 2021. He arrived at 10:49 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

He weighed 5 pounds and was 19 inches long. He is the second child of Hailey and Chris Tomlinson of Casper, and little brother to 6-year-old Aspyn.

“It was pretty exciting at first, because they told us there was another family right behind us,” Hailey said. “But then, I was just ready for him to get here.”

The Tomlinsons didn’t expect a New Year’s baby. Kallen wasn’t due for another three weeks. He had stopped growing, however, and his doctors wanted to deliver him at 38 or 39 weeks. But Hailey started getting headaches and high blood pressure, and on Thursday, she was admitted to the hospital. This pregnancy was also noticeably different than her first. Because of the pandemic, Chris couldn’t accompany Hailey into most of her appointments, only the ultrasounds, so he would wait for her in the car. Under different circumstances, their hospital room would be filled with visitors, and little Aspyn would have already met her little brother. Instead, she’s made due with Facetime.

“I’m happy everyone is healthy, but it was a little sad. I would have liked to go with her to all her appointments,” Chris said.

But, today, the couple is just happy to have a healthy new Tomlinson to add to their family. Baby New Year was just icing on the cake.
