Throwback Thursday: Employee picnic, summer 1980
By Kristy Bleizeffer Aug 7, 2014
#ThrowbackThursday is a weekly series celebrating Wyoming Medical Center’s long and rich history in Natrona County. Special thanks to the Casper College Western History Center which archives the vast Wyoming Medical Center collection of newspaper articles, photographs and other memorabilia.
In the summer of 1980, photographer Michael Naylor joined Memorial Hospital for its second annual employee picnic, a tradition we celebrate to this day. He published this photo essay in the Casper Journal.
We'll be throwing our 2014 summer picnic tomorrow in Conwell Park. But, let's be honest, the 1980 bash will be hard to beat: "Between 1,000 and 1,100 (people) filled the grounds of city park and about as many helium balloons filled the sky," Naylor wrote.
The party featured Big Bird and Cookie Monster, 2-by-4 races and a "pretty leg" contest. Lewis Spencer had the prettiest legs, in case you were wondering, "with Dr. Gregory Brondos a close second."
