Wyoming Medical Center earns top Hospital Quality Award

By Kristy Bleizeffer Aug 28, 2017

Mountain-Pacific Quality Health recognized Wyoming Medical Center with a 2017 Hospital Quality Commitment Award at the Wyoming Quality Health Care Conference this month in Casper.

McMurry West Tower opened in November 2014.

Quality awards are given out each year to recognize hospitals for their undying commitment to improving patient care. Awards are given to hospitals that reach eight quality goals, including milestones in patient satisfaction, antibiotic stewardship, clinical care, and patient and family engagement.

“It takes a great team to commit to quality. We understand that safe, effective care is what matters most to patients,” said Carol Solie, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Wyoming Medical Center. “WMC leadership has a long standing history of providing the support needed to promote quality improvement. That has led to our recognition as the only Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center in Wyoming, and the only American College of Surgeons certified Bariatric Surgery Program.”

WMC quality and safety programs lauded in this award include:

  • Dedicating care coordinators for major service lines – including joint replacements, heart care and lung care – to oversee all aspects of care delivery, recovery and follow-ups.
  • Mobilizing more resources to reduce preventable readmissions to the hospital.
  • Acting as responsible antibiotic stewards, avoiding deadly antibiotic resistance bacteria found in other states.

“We have been blessed with outstanding infectious disease physicians and pharmacists who have worked for years to ensure doctors all over the state use the most effective antibiotics,” Dr. Solie said.
