In August 1961, the Central Wyoming Fair and Nite Rodeo scored two of the biggest television stars of the time: Lorne Greene and Dan Blocker, who starred in the hit "Bonanza" as Ben and Hoss Cartwright, entertained crowds nightly in front of the grandstands. On Aug. 4, they stopped by the children's ward of Natrona County Memorial Hospital. More »

In June 1953, the hospital’s stove was somewhat of a local celebrity. “Old Garland,” as the kitchen staff called her, was all but cooked out when the Casper Tribune-Herald wrote a deliciously sentimental article. It even ran a photo of the afternoon cook trying to light her – using a precarious method the cooks devised after the janitors refused to do it for them. More »

In 1953, Memorial Day was celebrated on Saturday, May 30 -- the traditional date of the holiday. In Casper, local Veterans of Foreign War posts began their yearly Buddy Poppy Drive one week before Memorial Day, recruiting six-year-old Lorraine Keller to deliver the first poppy to the hospital bed of Talleck M. Johnson, according to this Tribune-Herald photo. More »
