Dr. David B. Wheeler is board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology. He is medical director of Wyoming Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center and is founder of our Level III Epilepsy Center.

He is the 2010 Wyoming Medical Center Physician of the Year. He serves on the boards of Wyoming Dementia Care and the Wyoming Medical Society.

He grew up in Missoula, Mont. Despite being a good student in grade school, he dropped out of high school at 16 and worked at King’s Table Buffet.  After a few years, he earned his GED, went to college and became a Rhodes Scholar.

He completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology, EEG and epilepsy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts, and he earned his doctorate in neurosciences from Stanford University.

He came to Casper in 2005 and started building Wyoming Medical Center’s stroke program. In 2015, the American Stroke Association awarded WMC its highest level of recognition for quick treatment of stroke in our Emergency Room. Out of about 1,000 stroke centers in the country, we were one of just about 30 to achieve the highest possible designation.

“Among my proudest professional achievements is leading an amazing team that has built our Primary Stroke Center from the ground up. This is only possible in our small town because of the passion for quality and excellence exhibited by team members from every part of Wyoming Medical Center,” he said.

Dr. Wheeler is married and has two children.
