#ShowYourHeart for Donate Life Month this April
Mar 25, 2021
April is National Donate Life Month, and Wyoming Medical Center is proud to join Donate Life Wyoming in raising awareness about organ donation in the Cowboy State.
National Donate Life Month is a time to spread awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation and honor those who gave the gift of life. This observance is celebrated every April and was established by Donate Life America in 2003. In our community, Coloradans and Wyomingites celebrate by showing their heart in support of organ, eye and tissue donation.
There are several ways to support organ and tissue donation throughout the month. Here’s how you can get involved:
Share a #ShowYourHeart photo on social media.
There are nearly 2,000 people in our area waiting for a lifesaving transplant. To support them, Donate Life Wyoming wants to get 2,000 #ShowYourHeart photo submissions in April. Here’s how to participate:
- VISIT DonateLifeWyoming.org/ShowYourHeart
- UPLOAD your photo and share why you signed up as an organ, eye and tissue donor
- CUSTOMIZE your photo with a specially designed 'Y' heart.
- SHARE with your friends on social media
Everyone who uploads a photo will be entered to win a Donate Life Mystery Box. Learn more here.
Watch the WMC flag raising.
Members of the Wyoming Medical Center’s Donor Resource Team will raise the Donate Life Wyoming flag in front of the hospital in a short ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1. Donation resources and information will also be available in the West Tower lobby throughout the month.
Our Donor Resource Team works year round to promote donation. For every death in the hospital, the team calls Donor Alliance (the federally-designated Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) for Colorado and Wyoming) to determine whether donation is possible. It guides donor families through the process and works alongside the transplant center teams who come to WMC when donation is possible. Finally, the team studies our internal processes to see where improvements can be made.
Wear blue and green on Friday, April 16.
National Blue and Green Day is April 16, and everyone is encouraged to show support for organ and tissue donation by dressing in these colors. Please post your blue and green photos with the #ShowYourHeart instructions above.
